An avalanche at a California ski resort on the morning of 17th January killed one skier and fatalyly injured another, authorities said.
The avalanche occurred at the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows which isa famous ski resort near Tahoe City, California, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the resort.
The avalanche occurred in the afternoon around 1:16 p.m. ET. The Alpine Meadows Ski Patrol is conducting a thorough search of the areafor any further victims.
The locality had been on avalanche watch prior to the incident, after a storm dumped upwards of 25 inches of snow the day before. Alpine Meadows has a history of avalanches, with 7 skiers killed in a 1982 avalanche.
